Morning Blessings-Tenth of Tevet-Akeidah Meditation II
And it is said: “Despite even this, when they will be in the land of their enemies, I will not have despised them nor have abhorred them to destroy them, to annul My covenant with them, for I am God, their Lord (Leviticus 24:44).”
“If Israel but knew,” says God, “how many hosts and multitudes are held up through them, they would see that they are not worthy to survive for an instant. It is about this, that it is written, “Despite even this, when they will be in the land of their enemies, I will not have despised them nor have abhorred them to destroy them, to annul My covenant with them, for I am God, their Lord.” (Zohar III 66a)
Application:
Even as we are focused on the enemies we know, especially as we approach the anniversary of the Siege of Jerusalem, we must remember that there are “hosts and multitudes” of enemies who were stopped even before attacking us. We must therefore thank God for His protection even as we recall when He allowed our enemies to overcome us.
We must therefore make a special effort as we prepare for the Tenth of Tevet to acknowledge God’s blessings, the ones of which we are aware, and even more so, than many more blessings of protection of which we are unaware.
