The 29th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Shlomo Rabinowitz of Radomsk, first Rebbe of the Radomsk dynasty: The Radomsker taught: We read, ” Then Pinchas stood up and prayed [made a judgment call] and the plague was stopped. And that was accounted to him for righteousness to all generations for evermore (Psalms 106:30–1).” The question arises: Aaron also stopped a plague (Numbers 17:12), and yet we find no such re-compensable for him as for Pinchas?

The explanation is: Aaron used Incense, and that was available only in the days of the Temple. But Pinchas used prayer which may be utilized even today, even for the halting of an epidemic. Hence the great reward meted out to Pinchas. (Ohel Shlomo, page 32)
