Prayer Skills-Vayikra-Ba’alei Tosafot-

The 29th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rabbeinu Yitzchak (ben Asher) of Speyer. Grandson of the Riva, he was murdered with numerouis other Jews because of a blood libel (1196). “He called to Moshe, and God spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting, saying (Vayikra 1:1).” Moshe stood outside the Mishkan, so in awe of the Cloud of Glory that rested over it, that he hesitated to enter. The Holy One, Blessed is He, said, “It is not appropriate that Moshe should stand waiting outside,” so, “He called to Moshe,” to enter. (Ba’alei Tosafot)

Picture yourself after you have taken three steps back, but before you take the three steps forward into the Amidah, as Moshe standing outside the Mishkan in awe, waiting for God to call him. Think of the Mitzvah to pray as God calling to you, inviting you into prayer. Take the three steps forward in response to God’s “Call.”
