Prayer Skills-The Lelover’s Kavanah

The 16th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Eliezer [Eleazar] Menachem Mendel (ben Moshe) Biederman, Lelover Rav in Yerushalayim, the son of Rav Moshe Biederman (1827-1883). He was buried on Har Hazeisim. The Lelover frequently locked himself in his room and there were those who were curious to know what the Rabbi was doing there. They looked through the crack in the door and saw how he spread a sheet on the floor and lay down on the ground in full prostration with arms and legs outstretched. He then beat on his breast forcefully, repenting before God and crying like a child as he confessed, saying, “David Tzvi Shlomo son of  Matil Feige, what did you do in such and such a place, and in that other place what did you do?” So did he cried and sobbed and begged that God forgive him and show him a little light.
