Pesukei D’Zimrah-Breaking Through the Barriers-Tenth of Tevet

“God saved, on that day, Israel from the hand of Egypt, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. Israel saw the great Hand that God inflicted upon Egypt and the people feared God, and they had faith in God and in Moses, His servant (Exodus 14:30).”

This moment, when we are praising God for the Splitting of the Sea, we are praising God for smashing through any barriers to save us, and for providing us with a path through the seemingly insurmountable block. This is a perfect moment to focus our Kavanah on the Tenth of Tevet, when we were blocked by the Babylonians within the walls of Jerusalem.

“One must say the Song of the Sea with intense, Kavanah and while standing to represent complete immersion of his soul in these words, which will bring him atonement for all his sins, and the merit to sing this song in the Future World. It is therefore appropriate to sing this song as a song with all the musical notes, and the person should sing as if he were actually crossing the Sea, saved by the Hand of God, with great joy. (Siddur Rabbi Shabtai)
