Metzorah: Tiferet Shlomo: Humility to Build
The 29th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Shlomo (Dov Tzvi Hakohen) Rabinowitz of Radomsk, first Rebbe of the Radomsk dynasty (1803-1866). “They shall take other stones and bring them in place of the stones; and they shall take other mortar and plaster the house (Vayikra 14:42) to see.” This verse is a hint to a good attribute through which we can rebuild the Beit Hamikdash: for it is with the power of the military, the dust that is the mortar, that one can plaster and rebuild the House; the Beit Hamikdash. (Tiferet Shlomo, Metzorah)
We tend to think of humility as tearing something down, and yet we are being taught in this verse that in fact, utility is the basic building material necessary to rebuild God’s House.
