Metzorah: Chafetz Chaim: Spiritually Poor



“And if he is poor and cannot afford (Vayikra 14:21).” Just as there is an offering of a wealthy person and a different offering for the poor person, each according to what he can “reach,” – yado maseget – so it is in the Service of God: There is not a single universal measure for everyone. There is a difference in the demand made of a simple person and that which is expected of a great scholar or a righteous person . “If he is poor,” in spirituality, “and cannot afford or reach,” he can fulfill his obligation with less. However, if he is spiritually wealthy; his offering, his Service, must reflect his abilities!
