Chayei Sarah – Cave of Machpeilah: Two

When Abraham came to the Cave of Machpeilah to bury Sarah, Adam and Eve stood and did not want to allow them to enter. They said, “We are eternally ashamed for our sin before god. You are coming with all your merit just to shame us even more!”

Abraham responded, “I accept on myself to pray before the Holy One, Blessed is He, that you should no longer be ashamed.”

Adam immediately stood aside, however, Eve did not want to move, until Abraham led her by hand to the side of her husband. Only then could Abraham enter and bury Sarah. (Yalkut Reuveini, Chayei Sarah.)
