Yefei Einayim: Bo

The 5th of Shevat is the Yahrtzeit of Rabbi David ben Mordechai of Brody, Austria, author of Yefei Einayim. He died on February 3, 1816.

“Send out My nation so that they may serve Me.” When God hardened Pharaoh’s heart it was to teach the king and the Egyptians that He would not be satisfied with Pharaoh sending the Jews out because he was terrified of God, Teshuva from fear of consequences.

God wanted Pharaoh and the Egyptians to reach a stage of Teshuva as an expression of love: Send them out because you want them to serve Me! (Yefei Einayim – Torah Or
