The Search: Direction

“Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother’s name was Jekoliah; she was from Jerusalem. He did what was right in the eyes of God, just as his father Amaziah had done. He sought the Lord during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought God, the Lord gave him success (II Chronicles 26: 3-5).”

Uzziah’s seeking of God was successful only as long as he received direction from his teacher, Zechariah, in the fear of God.

Elul begins our Seeking of God, “Seek God while He may be found; call on Him while He is near (Isaiah 55:6).” Our seeking too, must be guided by instruction in fear of God. We are not seeking fear of God; we are guided in our search for God by instruction in fear of Him.

We must use Elul to study the laws and concepts of Awe of God, not the fear of the Day of Judgment, but awe of Who and What God is with the intention of the study guiding our search for connection. Focus on all the mentions of Awe of God in our prayers, “Place in our hearts Love for You and Awe of You.” Pray that our study of Awe will guide our Elul Seeking.
