Tehillim Tools: Psalms 145:19
“He does the will of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them (Psalms 145:19).” The Ba’al Shem Tov said, that those who are truly in awe of God do not have any will or desire for physical things; they are in such awe of God, that all they desire in to serve Him. But, our Sages taught, “The Holy One, Blessed is He, desires the prayers of the righteous (Yevamot 64a).” Therefore, don’t read this verse as God does the will of those who fear Him, but, “God makes those who fear Him have a desire for something,” so that they will pray to Him to request what they want, and then, “He hears their cry and saves them.” (Dudaim baSadeh; Bechukotai)
Perhaps we can takes this one step further and apply this teaching to a person who is seized by a desire, whether for good, or not so good, and he doesn’t understand why or what happened. He can look at the desire as God teaching him to pray more, in this case, to control his desire, or, to teach the person something about himself.
