Tehillim Tools: Psalms 119:49-50

“Remember Your word to Your servant, through which You have given me cause to hope. This is my consolation in my affliction, for Your word has given me life (Psalms 119:49–50).” I once asked my father zt”l for a suggestion to help me study Torah with more concentration and commitment. He told me that the Beit Yosef in the Maggid Mesharim teaches that one should recite these verses ten times before studying, and will find that he is able to study without any break in concentration. Although he did not have the best singing voice, he successfully taught me a beautiful tune for these verses. We began to sing this to ten times before each Shabbat meal so that we would be able to use the meal to grow in Torah.
