Shir Hashirim-Radomsk

The 29th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Shlomo (Dov Tzvi Hakohen) Rabinowitz of Radomsk, first Rebbe of the Radomsk dynasty. The Radomsker said: We read, “O draw me; we will run after You (Song of Songs 1:4).” A shepherd employs two methods to draw his sheep to him. He either whistles and they come, or he drives them with his staff, and they move forward.

In the first instance, they follow him; in the second, he follows them. We petition that God should draw us close to Him by His voice, and we promise to follow after Him. But we do not desire that He should drive us to godliness with the staff of misfortunes. (Ohel Shlomo, page 30)
