Shir HaShirim-Finding Holiness

Rabbi Bunam taught: We can find God and achieve holiness only if we devote our leisure to holy studies and lead an exemplary life; not if we live indolently in our homes, or waste our time in the pursuit of mundane enjoyments.

We read, “By night in bed I have sought Him, Whom my soul loves; I sought Him but I found Him not. I will rise now, and go about the city, in the streets and in the broad ways; I will seek Him, Whom my soul loves; I sought Him but I found Him not. Scarce had I passed from them, when I found Him, Whom my soul loves (Song of Songs 3:1–4).” As soon as a man puts away indolence in bed and pleasure seeking in the city, he finds God.
