Shir ha-Shirim XX Part Two: Sefirah 46

Rabbi Yudan said, “Your Name is as ointment poured forth,” Your Name is magnified by everyone who busies himself with the oil of the Torah. This is consistent with his explanation, “And the yoke shall be destroyed by reason of oil (Isaiah 10:27),” to mean that the yoke of Sancherev would be destroyed because of Chezkiah and his followers who busied themselves with the oil of the Torah. Rabbi Yudan focuses on using Torah as a healing ointment, one that can shatter any external constraints that are placed upon us. He speaks of those who appreciate that when they study Torah they are pouring God’s ointment over creation; healing it and reconnecting it to its Source.
