Shalom Aleichem: Wings

Each Mitzvah we do creates an Angel that will fly up to heaven and attach to God’s crown. However, when we perform a Mitzvah without love and awe of God, the Angels are created without wings.

When Shabbat comes and our Neshama Yeteira is suffused with love and awe, all the wingless Angels of the week, grow wings and are able to fly up to decorate God’s crown with our spiritual accomplishments.

We bid them farewell when we sing Tzeitchem L’Shalom and they fly up to complete their holy mission. (Heard from El Ad in the name of Rabbi Shmuel Brazil)
