i-Attach-Seven Haftarot of Nechama-Jerusalem-The Nature of Our Comfort

Isaiah, the prophet, tells us, “As one whom his mother comforts, so will God comfort you, and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem (66:13).”

A mother’s comfort is acceptable and welcome because she understands the sufferer’s anguish. Likewise, God knows our sorrow and will truly comfort us. A sign or omen of our comfort is the fact that no other nation has rebuilt Jerusalem as an important world center. It needs Israel to restore Jerusalem’s grandeur. Therein lies our comfort (Rav Shlomo Sofer; Chut haMeshulash, page 86).
