Rosh Hashana Prayers: Second Paragraph of Shema: First Night

“And it will come to pass that if you continually hearken to My commandments that I command you today, to love God, your Lord, and to serve Him, with all your heart and with all your soul.” We can also read this as, “To love God, your Lord, and to express that love in your service.”

We commit ourselves at this point of Rosh Hashana to take all our experiences of God’s love, Majesty, and power, and reify them as love for Him.

We will then be able to pray with a more intense love.

We also commit to take the love we experience over Rosh Hashana and express it through all our service of God over the coming year.
