Spiritual Tool: Reb Zusha: Faith

The 2nd of Shevat is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Meshulam Zusha (Rebbe Reb Zusha) from Anapoli (Hanipol) (1718-1800). Disciple of the Magid of Mezritch; younger brother of the Noam Elimelech.

The Baal Shem Tov taught that a person should not have faith that God will give him physical things such as food. God does not necessarily have to provide such things.

But a person should have faith in his own worship of God. One can be certain that God will give him the opportunity to fulfill the Mitzvot. He can therefore also have faith that God will give him the strength to observe the Mitzvot.

One should not have faith that his strength will come from food. He should merely have faith that God will give him the necessary strength. God’s treasury is not so limited that He can only provide strength through food.
