Amidah: Rav Chaim Vital: Teshuva Prayer
The 30th of Nisan is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Chaim Vital (1543-1620). Rabbi Moshe Alshich had a son who became an apostate. My master, the Ari, taught him a prayer that would cause his son to repent. He made use of it, and his son eventually returned. (Rabbi Chaim Vital, Sha’ar Ruach haKodesh, p.76)
Rav Chaim Vital is not interested in sharing the Alshich haKadosh’s troubles with all future geneartions. He is teaching us an awesome idea: One who is properly connected to the blessing of Teshuva, in doing Teshuva, can actually use the blessing to create an influence of Teshuva in the world, and can pray for God’s help in directing others to return to Him.
