Rabbi Moshe Chefetz: Toledot: Asking The Proper Question

The 29th of Cheshvan is the Yahrtzeit of Rabbi Moshe Chefetz (Gentili), author of Malechet Machashevet. He dies on November 11, 1711. Rebecca understood that when her twins battled each other inside her womb that there was a message for her. The Talmud teaches that the Evil Inclination does not enter the body until birth. It was impossible for one of the children to fight whenever she passed a house of idol worship. There was no question in her mind that God was sending a message.

This is what she meant when she asked: “Lama zeh Anochi?” – not, “Why should I exist?” – but, “What is the message to me?”

ToolsApplication:
A human being must always ask, “What is the message for me?” rather than, “Why is this happening to me?”
