Shabbat Prayer-Psalm 92-Alexander Rebbe
The 18th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Chanoch Henoch (ben Pinchas) HaKohen of Alexander (1798-1870). A direct descendent of the Shach, he was a disciple of Rav Simcha Bunam of Pshis’cha, Rav Menachem Mendel of Kotzk and the Chidushei HaRim. [Adar II]
The Alexanderer Rebbe was informed that so large a crowd assembled to hear his sermons that many were compelled to remain in the synagogue court; moreover, many aged persons had fallen asleep because of the heat. The Rabbi was pleased to hear of these large assemblies, and paraphrased Psalm 92:14 and 15: “Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God; they shall still bring forth fruit in old age, they shall be full of sap and richness.” His version was, “Those who are seated in the House of the Lord, those who stand in the Courts of our God, and those who are asleep because of their high old age, shall all of them be vigorous in body and youthful in spirit.” (Siach Sarfei Kodesh I, page 79)
