Prayer Skills-Shabbat HaGadol-The Rise to Greatness

It is written, “And the Living Angels ran and returned (Ezekiel 1:14).” The Baal Shem Tov explained that the soul is carved out of a holy place, and should constantly burned to return to its Source. In order that it not be annihilated out of existence, it was surrounded by a material body, so that it should also be involved in physical things, such as eating, drinking and business. As a result, it is not constantly involved in worshiping God and does not become nullified in Is Essence.

For this reason, the Emanations have levels of both Greatness and Smallness. The level of Greatness, of Shabbat HaGadol, the Shabbat on which the Children of Israel first rose to Greatness, Gedulah, corresponds to “the Living Angels running,” why Smallness corresponds to their “return.” These levels also have their parallel in man.

When a person has a constant enjoyment, it becomes part of his nature, and is no longer an enjoyment. Man must therefore go up and down in his worship of God. He is then able to sustaining joy mint which is the main purpose of worshiping God. (Keter Shem Tov 121)
