Parsha Mitzvot: Vayechi: Burying The Dead I

“So Joseph went up to bury his father.” (Genesis 50:7)
The Sages describe the Mitzvah of escorting and burying the dead as Levaya – which is related to the word Malveh – one who lends money or an object to another. The Malveh – lender – expresses his trust in the Loveh – the borrower – otherwise, he would not lend the money.

When we are Melaveh – when we escort the dead – we are expressing our trust that he or she is going to a better place.
