Parah: Rav Schwab

The 14th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Shimon (ben Yehuda) Schwab (1908-1995). “This is the decree of the Torah, which God has commanded, saying: Speak to the Children of Israel, and they shall take to you a completely red cow, which is without blemish, and upon which a yoke has not come (Bamidbar 19:2).”

The midrash (Bamidbar Rabbah 19:6) says, “The Holy One, Blessed is He, said to Moshe: to you I will reveal the reason for the Red Heifer but for all others it shall be a statute.” This means that the idea of the Red Heifer is connected with secrets that can only be revealed when the soul has separated itself from the body, and one who lives in this world, as a combination of a body and soul, cannot begin to perceive the secrets.

However, Moshe our master, whose body existed in the world of Angels, and, “bread he did not eat, and water he did not drink,” was able to receive the secrets even on this world.
