When a person speaks a word of good, that word is his life force. But life force comes from God, and therefore, that word rises on high and awakens the Supernal Word. This causes more life force to be transmitted to the individual from on high.

When a person speaks evil, however, then he spews forth his life force, but it does not ascend on high. It is thus possible for him to lose all of his life force. People therefore say that “Her hot ois get-ret, He spoke out.” (Tza’va’at haRivash)
