Morning Blessings: Derech haChaim

The 25th of Iyar is the Yahrtzeit of Rabbi Yaakov Lowberbaum of Lissa, the author of numerous books, including Netivot haMishpat, Nachalat Yaakov, and Derech haChaim. He died on May 25, 1832.

If one woke up in middle of the night  to relieve himself and now wants to go back to sleep, after reciting the blessing of Asher Yatzar he should recite the blessing of “Elokai, Neshamah” without the concluding blessing, and should repeat the blessing of “Hamapil”  without God’s name.

One may only recite a biblical verse by heart if it is a verse that all people are familiar enough to recite it by heart without making a mistake. (Derech haChaim)
