Midot Hayom: Day 44: Gevurah in Malchut

“Make your Torah study a fixed practice.” How should one fulfill this? If your hear something from a Sage in the Beit Midrash, do not treat it offhandedly but fix it in you’re your mind. Practice what you learn and teach it to others so that they can do it, as it says, “Learn them and safeguard the commandments so you will be able to keep them.” (Devarim 5:1) Similarly, it says about Ezra, “Ezra set his heart to expounding the Torah of God and fulfilling its statute and law in Israel.” (Ezra 7:10) Avot of Rabbi Nathan 13:2

While most understand the idea of fixed practice as having regular study times, this selection takes a different approach: Take everything you learn and make it a fixed part of you. Incorporate everything you study. Each individual idea is part of the whole that incorporates everything. When we learn to treasure each individual insight we can access the whole of Torah and life.
