Loving God 9

(Deuteronomy 6:25) “And it will be a merit for us if we are careful to perform this entire commandment before God, our Lord, as He commanded us.” Rabbi Shimshon Pincus (Days of Awe, page 39) quotes a Midrash (Devarim Rabbah 8:5): “This can be compared to a king who had a precious stone and he gave it to a beloved friend to guard. “Please guard it carefully for you will have no way to repay me if you lose it and I will have no way to replace it. You will be failing both of us.” So, too, Moses said to Israel, “When you treasure the Torah you are not only benefiting yourselves but both you and I.” We can experience each Mitzvah as an opportunity to express our love of God. We can protect His precious possession, the Torah, for His sake.
