Lechem Mishneh: Back To The Beginning I

A Study of Manna I: “God said to Moses, Behold! I shall rain down for you food from heaven; let the people go out and pick each day’s portion on its day, so that I can test them, whether they will follow My Teaching or not. And it shall be that on the sixth day when they prepare what they will bring, it will be double what they pick every day.” (Exodus 16:4-5)

“Behold!” The Hebrew that is translated as “behold,” is “hinini,” with which we are familiar from Abraham’s responses during his tenth test, the Binding of Isaac, “Hineni,” I am here.

God introduced the Manna by saying, “I am here,” you will find Me, relate to Me, and attach to Me, through this process.

The Lechem Mishneh of Shabbat immediately follows Kiddush, in which we declare God’s Presence. Kiddush is the “Hineni” that introduces the Manna/Lechem Mishneh. It is what empowers us to take full advantage of the Lechem Mishneh.
