Iyun Tefillah: Aleinu

“Hakadosh baruch hu,” the Holy One, Blessed is He, reflects the combination of the attributes of Chesed and Din, Life Force and Judgment. God’s name is sanctified when He expresses judgment and punishes the wicked. Therefore, the “Holy One,” reflects Judgment. “Baruch,” or “Blessed is He,” is expansive, as is every blessing, and reflects the attribute of Chesed – the expansion of Life Force.
