Haggadah-Suffering We Can Handle?

The 5th of Nisan is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Avraham Yehoshua Heshel of Apt, the Ohev Yisrael. A story for discussion during the Seder: Boundless was the Apter’s love for Israel. Once he broke into great lamentation and wept almost a half day without cease. On this day Rabbi Zusha of Hanipol visited Apt and came directly to Rabbi Abraham Joshua. “What is the cause of your weeping?” “Has not the Holy Baal Shem Tov commanded us to be always happy and cheerful?”

The Apter cast a mournful glance at his friend and cried, “Zusha, Zusha, what will befall you? Do you not feel the dreadful suffering and the bitter persecutions to which the people of Israel are subjected?”

“I feel them, but it is written in the Zohar, that God inflicts upon mankind only as much suffering as it can endure.”
