Haggadah-As If He Personally

The 15th of Nisan is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Yona Teumim Frankel (1595-1669), Av Beis Din in Metz. He was the son of Reb Yeshia Teumim. He is the author of Kikayon DeYona. In it, he explains the commentaries of Rashi, Tosfos , the Maharsha and the Maharshal on Gemara.

“It is one’s duty to regard himself as though he personally had gone out of Egypt.”

Rabbi Baruch Frankel Teomim comments that just as the Jews in Egypt were

privileged to have miracles performed for them even though they had no mitzvos to their credit, so too every Jew is obligated to appreciate the miracles Hashem does for him every day, even though he does not deserve them. This is an additional meaning of the statement, “it is one’s duty to regard himself as though he personally had gone out of Egypt.”
