General Principles of Prayer 5
From my father zt”l: Gratitude as Subordination: Admission: This is a very difficult thing for people to do. When we say “Modim anachnu lach”, “we recognize our dependence on You,” we are acknowledging that God is the source of all we have. It is interesting to note that the Hebrew word for “admit”, meaning, something that I would prefer to deny, is the same as the word for thank you. To thank means that I admit something that I would prefer to deny. I would prefer that I didn’t have to come to you for help, that I was independent and self-sufficient.
