First Blessing 18: God’s Name Part Two

The text of the siddur is very carefully laid out with regard to the words that it uses. The text is concise and very well constructed. You will see patterns in the words of the prayer such as words that are always associated with each other.

Example: What is the root word of compassion? – Womb. That teaches us something about compassion.

The siddur is trying to tell us something about words that are placed together. In the case of God’s name, it works the same way. What is the root word of Elokeinu? – El, which means power. There are different expressions of power. Eloheinu means ‘The One in charge of us.’ The words Hashem Elokeinu means ‘The Being Who is in charge of us,’ or ‘God, our Lord.’
