Festival Prayers-Succot Kavanot-VaYivarech David
“David praised God in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, “Praise be to you, God, the Lord of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Yours, God, is the greatness (Chesed) and the power (Gevurah) and the glory (Tiferet) and the majesty (Netzach) and the splendor (Hod), for everything in heaven and earth is Yours (Yesod). Yours, God, is the kingdom (Malchut); You are exalted as head over all.
Wealth and honor come from You;
You are the ruler of all things.
In Your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all.
Now, our Lord, we give you thanks,
and praise your glorious name (Chronicles I 29:10-13).”
When we shake the Lulav in six directions we honor each of the Six Sefirot as we stand in the center, representing Malchut. It is my custom to shake the Lulav while reciting these verses.
Note: Read through the introduction to this prayer in Chronicles and you will find the word “Choice,” repeated many times. Use as Kavanah for Ata Vichartanu; You have chose us.
