Festival Prayers-Succot Kavanot-Psalm 34

“Turn from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it (Psalms 34:15).” The theme of peace speaks of the Four Species, which represent four types of people: those who have both learning good and deeds, those who have learning but lack good deeds, those who have good deeds but lack learning, and those who possess neither learning nor good deeds. The Four Species are only kosher when all four types of people are bound together as one. When we recite this verse on Succot, we remind ourselves to focus on the Four Species as an active reminder to pursue peace.
