Elul: Running
Even when one is involved in matters of this world, if his sole desire is to cling to Hashem this yearning [not only leaves a profound impact on the individual] but also elevates the entire material world.
The term ratzon, ordinarily translated as grace or will, is actually derived from ritzah, running. One who possesses an intense desire [to come close to Hashem] can soar and vault spiritually and pursue goals that are ordinarily unattainable. In fact he will succeed in transforming everything in this world – the curse as well as the blessings – into a source of blessing. (Free translation of Sefat Emet Re’ei 5632)
