Chanukah-Blessing 18: Modim: State of Being
“Shimcha malkeinu tamid l’olam vaed”- “Your Name, our King, continually forever”The emphasis on “continually forever” indicates that “Hoda’a”, gratitude, has to be a constant state of
being, not just something we do.
Gratitude is not simply something to be performed once, twice, or even three times a day. It is not the limited act of saying: “thank You God for everything You do”.
It has to be continuous, tamid, part of your existence. Not an expression of what you do but whom you are, of your identity. You are not simply someone who, as part of your prayers, says “Thank You!” You are a “thanker”.
