Parsha Mitzvot: Bo: Mitzvah 18 – Concept 413

“A sojourner and a hired laborer may not eat of it.” (Exodus 12:45) A permanent or temporarily hired worker may not eat of the Pesach offering. (Rambam, Hilchot Korban Pesach)

We derive from this law that a person who views his existence as being a sojourner, meaning that he does not believe that his actions can have an eternal impact, or one who views himself as a hired worker, meaning he serves God only to receive reward, will be unable to taste the World to Come even in his service of God. (Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak of Lublin – Or Lashamayim)
