Chanukah: Accessing the Light of Torah
It is written, “and God saw the light that it was good, and God divided the light (Genesis 1:4).” The midrash says, “He divided it from the darkness and stored it away for the righteous (Bereishit Rabbah 3:6).”
I heard from my grandfather, the Baal Shem Tov, that the place in which God stored this light was the Torah. (Degel Machaneh Ephraim; Bereishit)
Application: Have the following Kavanah in mind when lighting the Hanukkah candles: “I like these candles that represent the Light that has been stored away for the righteous with the intention and prayer to access this light in all of my Torah study.”
