Taking it With You: A Higher Vocabulary

“A Redeemer shall come to Zion and to those of Jacob who repent from willful sin, the words of God. And as for Me, this is My covenant with them, said God, My spirit that is upon you and My words that I have placed in your mouth shall not be withdrawn from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your offspring, nor from the mouth of your offspring’s offspring.” (Uva l’Tzion)

The connection between these verses is based on, “For then I would change the nations to speak a pure language, so that they will all proclaim the Name of God, to worship Him with a united resolve (Zephaniah 3:9).”

This will be a world as it was before the Tower of Babel, when all spoke one language. In the future, when all has been repaired, all will return to how it was; a shared vocabulary, a universal language, one based on seeing God in every detail of creation (Yismach Moshe).

However, although all will speak this universal language of praising God, many will be speaking but not reflecting their inner hearts. The promise, as described in our prayer, is that we will merit that we, our children, and all our future generations will speak a language that reflects the purity of the inner soul (Reb Tzadok haKohen of Lublin; Resisei Layla, page 36).
