A Farewell to Purim from Megillat Sofer

The 20th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rabbi Moshe Meir Perles of Prague, author of Megillat Sofer. He died on March 30, 1739 [Adar II].

“For the Jews there was light, gladness, joy, and honor (Esther 8:16).” Light, as in the first light of the morning. The Jews witnessed the progression of the good from the death of Haman to the elevation of Mordechai, to their own new elevated status, and their victory, as the morning light expands through the entire morning. This is how they knew that their efforts were blessed; each blessing brought more.

This is how we know that we had a successful Purim, when we observe ourselves growing and expanding even after the Holiday ends. (Megillat Sofer)
