Amidah-So What-Shemot-Redemption-Certainty Print E-mail
Written by Machberes Avodas Hashem

Prayer-Amidah-iAttach-Redemption-Shemot“The King of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the first was Shifra and the name of the second was Puah (Exodus 1:15).” The verse tells us their names because they were indications of the fact that these women had absolutely no doubt that redemption would come, and that they would be the midwives to bring the one who would lead the redemption into this world. It is the certainty that redemption will come that brings us the merit to experience redemption. (Kli Yakar)

“Blessed are You, God, Redeemer of Israel.” We do not speak of God as the one Who will redeem Israel, but as the, “Redeemer of Israel.” We speak of Redemption as a reality. It is this conviction that it is now a reality, not just something that will happen in the future, that makes this blessing so much more effective.
