Shema: Iyun Tefillah: Ahavah Rabbah Print E-mail
Written by Machberes Avodas Hashem

PrayerThe 4th of Nisan is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Yaakov Tzvi Mecklenberg, author of HaKesav Vehakabala and Iyun Tefillah (1785-1865). “Because we have trusted in Your great, mighty and awesome Only Name, may we exult and rejoice in Your salvation.” “Simcha,” is when we are able to use our intellect to find joy; even when we are suffering, when we can use our intellect to discover how we can benefit from our current troubles, we achieve this state of Simcha.

“Gilah,” describes natural joy such as what one would feel when winning the lottery.

As long as a person is living in troubled times, or suffering personal afflictions, he may achieve Simcha, but not Gilah. However one who has achieved an elevated level, with full control over his natural predilections, unlimited by his physical perceptions, can it achieve not only Simcha, but even Giulia no matter how much he may suffer.

It is to this level of clarity we aspire when we request of God, “May we exult and rejoice in Your salvation. (Iyun Tefillah)
