Pirkei Avot 6:2: Teshu’ot Chen: None Excluded Print

Pirkei AvosEvery single day a heavenly voice emanates from Mount Horeb, proclaiming and saying, “Woe to them, to the people, because of their insult to the Torah!” For whoever does not occupy himself with the Torah is called, “Rebuked,” as it is said, “As a golden ring in a swine’s snout is a beautiful woman who turns away from good judgment (Proverbs 11:22).” [Avot 6:2]

Even if one had committed many transgressions, he must not allow the Evil Urge to seduce him into thinking that God will never forgive him. This empty nonsense is merely a way of pushing one away from God. For there is nothing that stands in the way of repentance.

Moreover, the argument of the Evil Urge has no basis on account of the constant reminder to repent coming from God. As mentioned earlier, a Heavenly Voice goes forth daily, proclaiming, “Return, O  backsliding children (Jeremiah 3:14).” If it were true that such sinners are denied repentance, it would make no sense to call upon them to repent. (Teshu’ot Chen; Ha’azinu)
