Beit Midrash-The Vision of the Radomsker Print

Yahrtzeit-RadomskThe 29th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Shlomo Rabinowitz of Radomsk, first Rebbe of the Radomsk dynasty: More than a hundred years ago there was a Polish rebellion against Russia. Some of the rebels came to a rich Chassid near Radomsk and demanded that he buy for them hay and food. The Chassid refused to do so, and the rebel leaders condemned him to death.

The Radomsker was notified and he sent a messenger to the leader, asking permission for the Chassid to ransom his life by giving the rebels all his money. The leader agreed.

When the Chassid came to the Rebbe he told him that by chance he had had a large sum of gold in the house and the rebels had seized the entire amount. The Radomsker pondered for a moment and said, “Since the sum is so large, a record of it will be kept in the treasury office of the rebels. You may hope to receive it back.”

This shrewd surmise proved correct. When the Russians captured the treasury of the rebels they found the money intact with the entry that the Chassid had been fined for this sum for refusing to aid them. The Czar was informed of the incident, and he returned the entire sum to his loyal subject. (Hitgalut haTzaddikim, page 27)
