Beit Midrash-Radomsk-Skillful Rebuke Print E-mail
Written by Machberes Avodas Hashem

Yahrtzeit-RadomskThe 29th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Shlomo Rabinowitz of Radomsk, first Rebbe of the Radomsk dynasty. A man known as an informer against his fellow Jews, came to the Radomsker and said, “Rabbi, I have come to invite you to accept the mitzvah of holding my son at his circumcision.”

The Rebbe replied: “You are continually committing offenses, yet you expect to honor others by extending to them mitzvot?”

“But Rabbi,” countered the informer. “If you should shame me by refusing, you will have committed an offense.”

“Look here, my man,” answered the Rabbi. “You permit yourself serious offenses, yet you are unwilling to permit me to commit even a minor one.”

He then spoke at length to the informer, and the latter promised to offend no longer against his brethren. (Ohel Shlomo, page 57)
