Beit Midrash: Zichron She’aris Yosef: Discovering Greatness Print E-mail
Written by Machberes Avodas Hashem

Beit MidrashThe 5th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Yosef (ben Moshe Pinchas) of Pozen (1736-1801). After his bar mitzvah, Rav Yechezkel Landau (the Nodeh BiYehudah) chose him as a son-in-law. In 1780, he was chosen Rav in Posen, where he founded a yeshiva and where he remained until his petira.

Most of his teshuvos and chiddushim were lost in a fire. A small compilation remained and was called Zichron She’eiris Yosef. In his haskama, Rav Moshe Teumim wrote that six years after his petira, the government ordered the cemeteries cleared out. When they got to Rav Yosef’s kever, they found his body intact, as it was at the petira. In fright and awe, the government cancelled the decree.

From the Introduction: These writings were preserved by Rav Shlomo Kluger who allowed the insignificant man who has been honored to publish them to spend fifteen years reviewing them and exploring their deep treasures.

It is impossible to study this great man’s Torah and read what was written by his holy hand without being profoundly affected and inspired to live a life of purity and holiness.
