Beit Midrash: Amudei HaAvodah Print E-mail

Jewish HistoryThe 27th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rabbi Eliezer Landshuth, author of Amudei ha-Avodah. He died on March 23, 1887.  Amudei ha-Avodah is an historical study of all the great poets and liturgists of Judaism. Rabbi Landhuth uses his introduction to describe how his research gave him an entirely new appreciation of our history, and how great thinkers dealt with tragedy and powerful moral issues. He insists that all the piyutim contain a wealth of information that is essential for us to appreciate how people of all times and places uses the power of prayer to survive the worst circumstances.
